Dog-Friendly Photo Spots around Maitland

If you know me, you know I love when my clients bring their furry family members along for photo sessions. DogsĀ  bring so much joy, personality, and—let’s be honest—some of the best photo moments šŸ˜Ā  (or do you have a cat, horse, turtles?)

Whether it’s a branding session, family shoot, or just-for-fun portraits, including your animal adds a beautiful layer of real life and love. Luckily, our local area is full of beautiful, dog-friendly spots to make that happen! The council has a handy map of off leash areas HERE

I have put together some of my favourite locations for shoots with your four-legged sidekick:

🌳 Maitland Park

This one’s a local favourite for a reason! Wide open lawns, beautiful old trees, heritage-style features, and loads walking path. It’s dog-friendly on leash, so great for those action shots while running/walking/playing together.

🌿 Rathluba Lagoon – East Maitland

A little hidden, but so worth it. Rathluba Lagoon has that peaceful, tucked-away feel—perfect for relaxed shoots. There’s a great walking track, big lagoon, open grassy areas, and an off-leash dog section for pups to stretch their legs. Beautiful at golden hour too!

🌊 Lorn/Maitland Riverbank

If you’re after a riverside feel with loads of natural charm, Lorn’s riverbank walk is a dream. Long grass, soft light, —it’s a great open space where dogs can feel right at home (on lead). The local Lorn streets are leafy and beautiful for wandering too. Or on the Levee side there are paths, alleyways, and also the Belmore bridge.

🌾 Largs Bushland

Looking for a wild, earthy feel? The bushland reserves around Largs offer natural textures, tall gums, and lovely filtered light. It’s perfect for adventurous dogs who love to sniff and explore—plus the golden tones here in late afternoon? Stunning.

šŸ” Your Own Backyard or Rural Property

And of course—sometimes the best place is home. Whether it’s your backyard, farm, or favourite paddock, these spaces can be the most meaningful for you and your pets. Comfortable, personal, and completely yours.

Tips for a Great Shoot with Your Dog:

  • Ā Arrive Early for a Sniff-About

  • Bring the Basics: Treats, Water, Poop Bags

  • Keep a leash handy

  • Don’t stress—dogs will do their thing, and I’m here to capture the fun!Ā

  • Ā Bring a Friend (If You Can) -Having a second pair of hands can be so helpful—especially for holding the leash, grabbing treats, or helping redirect your pup’s attention while you relax and focus on the camera.

  • Be Patient, Stay Playful
