My Favourite Moments to Photograph

It is so satisfying nailing that shot of your whole family looking relaxed and smiling at the camera beautifully. But do you know what I love most? The moments in between.

The shy toddler snuggling behind mum, the competitive sibling race, the big belly laughs. The newborn yawns, the teen eye-rolls, the dad swinging their kid just a bit too high and everyone gasps then laughs. The quiet way a mum tucks hair behind a daughter’s ear. These are the bits I want to freeze in time.

The ‘everyone looking and smiling’ shot is awesome — and I always get plenty of those — but it’s the bits you don’t plan that sometimes mean more. I want your heart do that achey-happy thing when you look at your portraits. These ones that do that. A newborn curled in, little foot kicked high in the air. A big sibling sneaking a kiss, or squeezing that foot instead. The way your partner looks at you when you’re not watching. That’s real.

Family life is about embracing the chaos and I aim to capture the chaos in beautiful photos.

So when you’re in front of my camera, please don’t worry about perfect. Don’t fix your hair too much or tell the kids to say cheese. Just be there. Breathe each other in. I’ll guide you, but I’ll be watching for the good stuff in between.

Because the best bits are always a little messy, a little unexpected — and absolutely beautiful.
